A Senate panel approved a plan requesting the Illinois Juvenile Justice Commission further study the practice of expunging some juvenile criminal records.

State Sen. Kwame Raoul sponsored the joint resolution, which the Senate Executive Committee advanced Wednesday. He’s also backed legislation that essentially erases arrest records for young people who weren’t charged or convicted of alleged crimes. That measure passed the House.
