State Agency Unveils Plan to Improve Juvenile Justice System

March 20, 2015 – Gov. Bruce Rauner’s administration unveiled the outlines of a plan Friday calling for more staff and new laws to improve Illinois’ juvenile justice system and reduce recidivism rates. The Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice – which oversees around 700 children at six juvenile detention centers and 1,200 on parole – released a 10-page summary of the plan. It makes keeping children out of lockups, whenever possible, a top priority.
